I drove by again. Every time I’m behind the wheel, which isn’t often, I drive by. I can’t help but stare at it. This house has a story, and we get to be a part of it. It’s a privilege. Everyone keeps asking if we have an official move in date, but we don’t yet.
Here’s the thing though, even IF something does suddenly come up that prevents us from moving in, we still have plans. We’ll be “farming” here or there.
We are going to do raised garden beds this year for our vegetable garden. Last year, we grew tomatoes, jalapeños, green peppers, green beans, carrots, and blueberries. I tried growing cauliflower, but it didn’t ever get past giant green leaves that were gobbled up by some pest. (I need to do more research.) This year we are hoping to add sweet potatoes, onions, and strawberries to the mix. Possibly more. I may get a couple more blueberry bushes. My mom-in-law bought us one last year, and we got quite a few blueberries off of it. Harper would eat them until she turned blue if we let her. Basically, she ate them all last year and we got none. ha! If we’re in the farm house in time, we’ll be getting some chickens also!!!!!
Scott is most likely going to build the raised beds unless we find a great deal on a kit of some sort. I hope to share that process once it gets started. Something like this, only a little less fancy. It can either be inspiration, or a good lesson in what not to do. That’s the fun and frustrating part of learning, right?
This is our new dining table! My mom saw it at Salvation Army and text a picture to me. I sent Scott to check it out when he got off of work. He left it there that day, but went back again the next day and it was on sale. Of course he bought it and picks it up today. You can see some wear on the front right corner, so it needs some love. Possibly sanding down and re-staining. I think we may do the bench on one side for the kids and use two of our current chairs for Scott and I. But, we’ll see once we get it home.
We are so close to Spring, and I always get super anxious to make all the plans to do all the things. I’m already working on plans for our next year of homeschooling. We LOVE Abeka curriculum, and are sticking with it. Chloe will be in 4th, Addi in 2nd, and Harper will be doing pre-k. She’ll be the age to start Kindergarten, but I can tell she’s just not ready and that is perfectly fine. I started Chloe in K less than a month after she turned 5, and I’ve always regretted pushing her. I won’t make that mistake again.
Now, I need your help. We need a good vacuum. I’ve been eyeing this one because it’s got great reviews and isn’t too terribly priced. But, I wonder if this one will be better. We want to buy a good quality vacuum since we’ve gone through so many cheap ones. Do any of you have a Shark vacuum? What’s your opinion? I know the Dyson is best, but that price tag is TOO much. I want it to be lightweight because I need to carry it up and down the stairs, but it needs to be powerful. We four heads of long hair and a dog that sheds like mad. Help!
